Shamine Marie McDowell
Author, Speaker, Engager
Shamine Marie McDowell has a heart to minister to women who are hurting, need deliverance as well as encouragement. Born in Summit, New Jersey and a mother of one son, she now resides in Union, New Jersey. After being ordained on February 15, 2009, Shamine served as an Elder under the leadership of Pastor Barbara Glanton of the Love of Jesus Family Church, in Newark, New Jersey.
Shamine graduated from Union High School in the township of Union, New Jersey and from Essex County College, Newark, New Jersey with an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts. She completed theological courses at Evangelical Bible Institute Newark, New Jersey and is currently a full-time student at Rutgers University where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work.
Shamine did not always make healthy life choices and, as a result, she spent some time in prison. While incarcerated, Shamine was given an opportunity to participate in a program named Project P.R.I.D.E. (Promoting Responsibility in Drug Education) that allows inmates to leave the prison several times a week to speak to children, teens and college students on the effects of negative choices and how such decisions could lead them to prison. During these speaking events Shamine shared her experiences at high schools and universities such as Fairleigh Dickinson in Teaneck, New Jersey. She also ministered to incarcerated women via the Prison Ministry (Love of Jesus Family Church) at Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey.
Shamine has been a Conference Speaker at Rutgers University, New Jersey on the subjects of recidivism and re-entry as it relates to ex-offenders. She also lectured at a Criminal Justice Class (Gender Specific) at Rutgers Law School.
Shamine shares her testimony whenever she is given the opportunity because she believes that by sharing her journey, she will encourage and help others. She hopes to be a light to those who have also been incarcerated and to those who simply need to know that there is hope and life after prison. God has truly transformed Shamine from the menace to society she once was to the mighty woman of God whom she now is.
Shamine has a passion to help women who may be struggling in the area of sexual promiscuity, brokenness, low self-esteem, and verbal/physical abuse. Because of this, she has written her first book, My Journey from Perverseness to Purity, and it will be a key component of her personal ministry to women, which was launched officially in September 2014.
